Frequently asked questions
What is alt text?
Alt text is a short written description of an image, added in the alt attribute of the image tag. Screen readers read it aloud, and search engines use it to understand what an image shows.
Why does alt text matter for SEO?
Search engines can't see images the way people do. Good alt text tells Google what an image shows, which helps the image rank in image search and adds relevant context to the page it's on. It also makes your site accessible, which search engines value.
Is this alt text generator really free?
Yes. Everyone can generate alt text for 5 images per day for free, without creating an account. For more images you can choose a monthly plan or buy a one-off pack of credits.
How does it work?
Drop your images on the page, pick a language and click Generate. An AI model looks at each image and writes concise, descriptive alt text. You can copy each result or export everything as a CSV file with the file name and alt text.
Which languages are supported?
You can currently generate alt text in Dutch and English. More languages are coming.
Do you store my images?
No. Your images are only used to generate the alt text and are not stored on our servers. If you sign up halfway through, the images you dropped are kept in your own browser for at most 24 hours so you don't have to upload them again.
Which image formats can I upload?
JPG, PNG and WebP. Images are resized in your browser before upload, so large photos work too.
How do credits and plans work?
One image costs one credit. Plans give you a fixed number of credits every month, billed monthly, quarterly or yearly. Unused plan credits roll over up to twice your monthly amount. One-off pack credits never expire. All prices include VAT.
Can I cancel my plan?
Yes, at any time. Your plan keeps running until the end of the period you've paid for, and the credits you already have stay usable.
